Nya Kwiawon Taryor Jr is a son and grandson of retired United Methodist clergy. His Father is from Liberia, and his mother is from the United States. He also has an older half-brother and younger sister. He has lived across the United States and is attending Wesley Theological Seminary working on a Master of Divinity degree. Before he got to Wesley, he graduated from Olivet College in Olivet Michigan with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a minor in Interpersonal Communication. After he received his degree, he went to Milwaukee to become an advocate for food justice which pushed him to be involved in the Milwaukee Food Council and work closely with two United Methodist Congregations on those issues. He also decided to implant himself within the Milwaukee Public School System to give young black men the ability to see someone similar in the role of an educator. During the beginning of the pandemic, he felt a call to ministry, and is following his heart which has always been to serve others. In his spare time, he creates music, draws and watches sports.
