Award Description
The Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves announces a $2,500 grant opportunity that can be applied toward personnel, equipment, statistics, and supplies.* The Branch Research Award will support impactful clinical research related to evaluating interbody fusion techniques in lumbar spondylolisthesis. The deadline to apply is December 1st, 2021.
This research award will provide a means of peer review for clinical research projects to help improve the quality of the proposal, and therefore, enhance competitiveness for future federal funding. This new research award is meant to support innovative pilot research that may not have substantial preliminary data. Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of clinical translation, scientific rigor, innovation, and feasibility.

Eligibility
- The Principle Investigator (PI) must be an M.D. or D.O. within two years of having completed residency or fellowship training or currently enrolled in good standing, in an accredited Neurosurgery Residency Program.
- The applicant must be a member of the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves. If the applicant is a fellow or a resident, s/he must have a faculty sponsor from an accredited Neurosurgery program.
- The successful applicant will hold their primary appointment in Neurosurgery Department within the United States or Canada.
Funding
$2,500 will be awarded and can be applied toward personnel, equipment, statistics and supplies. Investigator salary support, travel, and institutional indirect costs are not included in funding.
Reporting Requirements
Recipients of the research grants are required to provide a six-month progress report and an oral presentation at the Section meeting one year after the receipt of the grant. The award will be provided in increments of 50 percent initially and 50 percent after the six-month progress report has been approved by the Awards Committee and the Executive Committee of the Spine Section.
