Teaching and Mentoring the Next Generation

Dr. Haid has been a dedicated teacher and contributor to the advancement of neurosurgical practice around the world. He has served as a visiting professor at 30 universities worldwide. He has been a Course Director more than 60 times, and lectured at over 170 Spinal Courses. He has served in a leadership position at nearly 200 meetings and courses over his career. He has published over 200 articles, book chapters, and books.

He began teaching other surgeons very early in his career. In his fellowship year, Dr. Haid received FDA clearance on a lateral mass fixation device. This led naturally to teaching at professional courses developed by the Congress of Neurosurgeons. Later while serving with the Air Force, Dr. Haid’s duties included training of Air Force and Naval surgeons in the latest complex spine surgical procedures. He has always felt the obligation to share what he has learned.

While guiding fellowship programs for young spine surgeons, Dr. Haid’s nickname was “Coach”. He has a passion for teaching, combined with a genuine belief that each of us has an obligation to give back to our community by sharing our experience and knowledge. Over the years, Dr. Haid has earned a reputation as an effective teacher of new and complex spinal surgery techniques.
